A: Work with a criminal defense attorney who fights for you by finding creative solutions.
The possibility of jail time is daunting. That is why our team at Pak and McRae Law, LLC takes time to find a solution to minimize jail time. We come to court prepared to tell the judge what we think the solution and consequences should be, being proactive and confronting the charge head on.
Let’s say that you were arrested for a drug crime and you were facing jail time.
Before going to court, our team would have you evaluated by a treatment center or hospital so that we can come to court prepared. Sometimes, we may even have our client go to counseling. At the end of the day, we want to show the court that this isn’t something that will happen again. You’re serious about turning things around.
Or what if you were arrested for a crime, but you are in charge of taking care of a parent that’s ill, or a grandparent. This is something that we always bring that up. We’d present house arrest as a solution and consequence.
If you have kids and a job and are the breadwinner, we get letters from your employers. If you are in school, we get referral letters from teachers or professors. Essentially, we are trying to say, “Look, the guy screwed up. He made a mistake. Jail is not for him. What can we do to not have him go there?”
We’ve had clients enter boot camps and do community service and not serve jail time. Some clients undergo psychoanalysis and other tests to determine whether or not there was a deeper cause to the crime. While these situations depend on your age and the charge, at Pak and McRae Law, LLC, we do our very best to come up with alternatives for jail time.
Sometimes we work with clients who are less concerned with jail time, but really concerned about fines, and it is certainly something to be concerned about. If you get a charge on your record, then it’s going to make your insurance rate go up, which means that you’re going to pay for an extended period of time as opposed to a one time fine.
Many find themselves without money to pay for these fines. We work with the judge to change the consequence to community service or another alternation option.
At Pak and McRae Law, LLC, we are always concerned about what is best for you as our client. We going to fight for you–hard–but we’re going to do so with you and your family in mind. Sometimes this means finding a solution other than jail time, sometimes it doesn’t. We’ll weather the storm we’re facing.
